We Are Learning At The Speed Of Thought!

Learning Tools

  • The Education Matrix learning tools include a course management system at www.StartClass.com and an online communication center called the AvWebCommunicator.
  • First lets look at StartClass. We structured StartClass into two major sections, an "Open Class" area and a place for "Private Classes".
    • The Open Class portion of StartClass is designed to be open to anyone. The content mainly consists of learning objects and modules that are located on the world wide web. We have search out and linked to the best educational sites on the web. Then we organized these sites according to subject grade level and sequenced them to optimize learning. You are free to use the content in the Open Class section of StartClass.
    • The Private Classes are reserved for our teachers and tutors. When you enroll in a class, you gain access to a Private Class that is moderated by a live teacher or tutor. The fees for enrollment vary according to the subject and nature of the class. Your teacher/tutor manages the content in his/her private classroom. This enables the teacher/tutor to tailor lessons to the needs of each student. The teacher/tutor may use a combination of the learning aides in the Open Class area with lessons developed specifically for his/her classroom.
    • There are numerous learning tools built into each classroom. The student may be directed to read an ebook, take a test, track through a structured lesson sequence, do a practice quiz, or communicate ideas in a forum, etc.
  • Below is an example of an Open Class called MathTime.

  • Next we will look at the AvWebCommunicator. The communicator is an online conference room that allows live 2-way video and voice communication.
    • The heart of the communicator is the ability to conduct conversations live through a microphone and the speakers on you computer.
    • Text chat is also available so while the teacher is talking, the student can ask questions in the text chat area. Or the student can raise his hand by just a click of the mouse and wait to be called on.
    • The teacher/tutor can make presentations, serf the web, show slides, show anything on his desktop, use a whiteboard (like a chalk board) to write in longhand or highlight items on a webpage. All students see what the teacher/tutor sends them at the same time.
    • Because the classroom is interactive, the teacher/tutor and student can develop a relationship through conversation and sharing of interests. The teacher/tutor can motivate and encourage each student live, publically or privately.
    • The teacher/tutor can initiate a private conversation with any one student while the rest of the class continues a discussion.
  • The AvWebCommunicator is private and secure.
    • All text and voice communication are encrypted so only participants in the classroom can listen and see what is presented.
    • The teacher/tutor is responsible for maintaining order in the classroom and can instantly stop a student from talking, kick a student out of the room, or ban a student from entering the classroom if the student's behavior is not acceptable.
    • Students are instructed not to share personal information with other students.
